Confidential therapy in the heart of Edinburgh

As a psychodynamic therapist, I pay attention to unconscious relational processes between us and find links between what feels distressful for you in the present and what occurred in the past. I stay close to your ‘felt experience,’ or what you are sensing and feeling, to help you reach ‘aha’ moments. This process of befriending your gut feelings to make them more explicit is informed by Eugene Gendlin’s focusing-oriented psychotherapy.

I view psychological movement as embodied, relational and non-linear. I work holistically, which means I often invite clients' attention to feelings and bodily sensations so that we don't get lost in the analysis or narrative. For substantial shifts to take place, we need to build a foundation of trust in the therapeutic relationship, and this takes time.

Therapy often involves stages of unraveling before we feel integrated and ‘ourselves’ again. This can feel confronting and disarming as we call into question protections (i.e. addictions, defenses, etc) that once kept us safe but are no longer helpful. I am here to accompany you as we encounter these challenges, bolster your inner resources and support your growing self-awareness and acceptance.
